Haberdashers’ Monmouth cadets hone campcraft skills in field day

1 November 2021

Boys and girls at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools took part in an exciting Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Field Day.

The schools’ senior cadets delivered excellent lessons, which also included camouflage and concealment techniques.

After bivvying on the playing fields at Monmouth School for Boys overnight and completing night navigation tasks, the students travelled to the town’s Vauxhall Fields for their daytime training.

At Vauxhall Fields, the cadets took part in fieldcraft training, including how to observe and move.

“It was wonderful to see our largest-ever contingent of boys and girls heading off on the CCF Field Day,” said Headmaster at Monmouth School for Boys, Mr Simon Dorman.

“I have been delighted to see Monmouth School for Girls’ Year 10 and 11 students involved in CCF this term; it’s another welcome addition to the increasing range of activities that our students are doing on a co-educational basis.”

He added: “Although we had to change our plans to hold the event entirely in Monmouth, due to Covid safety measures, the cadets had a valuable and enjoyable 24 hours and learned new skills and honed their campcraft.”

Mr Andy White, Mr Nathan Davison and the schools’ CCF staff worked hard to make the event possible, while Mr Matt Peake captured the field day with his photographic skills.
