The Royal High School in Bath held a special Community Day to raise much needed funds for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Over £5,000 was successfully raised and will be donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee. This will be doubled by the Government’s matching pledge.
Students, teachers and staff in both the Prep and Senior Schools came together to take part in a range of activities including a solidarity walk around the grounds of the school, wearing blue and yellow clothes and Ukrainian food was also prepared and served in the school kitchen at lunchtime.
The whole school community rallied and collected items to donate such as clothes, blankets and food supplies. The donated items will be given to the organisers of the Wiltshire Appeal who have arranged a weekly transport to Poland where the items will be distributed to a hostel in Kgierz and a volunteer centre in Lodz to help Ukrainian refugees. The outpouring of support from across the Royal High School Bath community has been breathtaking.
Kate Reynolds, Headteacher of The Royal High School Bath, said: “Over the past week, countless students have come forward with ideas to support the crisis in Ukraine. There is a clear desire that we, as a community, respond by raising money and providing aid. All money raised will go to the Disaster Emergency Committee, which is a centralised organisation disseminating food, water, shelter, healthcare and protection to the specialist charities on the ground.”
