Second Choir in National Finals for Burgess Hill Girls

Second Choir in National Finals for Burgess Hill Girls

24 February 2023

The Year 7 and 8 choir at Burgess Hill Girls has made it through to the National Finals of the Girls’ Schools Association’s Choir of the Year competition, following the success of the School’s Prep School Choir who will compete this month in the final of Barnado’s National Choral Competition.

The Year 7 and 8 Choir, comprised of twenty six students at Burgess Hill Girls, submitted three songs to the Girls’ Schools Association’s (GSA) Junior Choir of the Year competition, ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘Naughty’, both from Matilda the Musical and ‘Why We Sing’. You can watch and listen to the choir performing the songs here.

This week the Choir has found out they are one of six schools to have made it to the National Finals, which will be held at Warwick Hall on 12th March.

The choir has only been practising for the competition since November, meeting for thirty minutes a week.

Director of Music David Black is immensely proud:

“The choir have worked extremely hard in the limited time we have had, so they are greatly deserving this success. It is a pleasure to see how much they enjoy singing, and this radiates from their performance. We are all excited to have the chance to perform with other finalists at Warwick Hall.”

Year 8 Phoebe said:

“I love the feeling of singing in the choir, it always makes me happy. I am so thrilled to be able to sing with my friends in the final.”

Their fellow choristers in the Prep School at Burgess Hill Girls will compete this month in the Barnado’s National Choral competition at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
