GSA was thrilled to welcome the Choir of the Year Finalists to Warwick Hall on Sunday March 12th. Hundreds of girls and parents excitedly attended with their teachers and schools, keen to impress the judges in spectacular song.
GSA received thousands of brilliant entries, who all impressed the initial rounds’ judges Christine Edmunson and Stephen Willis, so it was a real testament to the talents of the girls who made it to the auditorium on the day. Our 2023 finalists were:
Junior Finalists: Burgess Hill Girls, Francis Holland (Sloane Square), Headington School, North London Collegiate School, South Hampstead High School, Sutton High School, The Abbey School, Wimbledon High School GDST
Senior Finalists: Cheltenham Ladies College, Francis Holland (Sloane Square), Harrogate Ladies College, Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School, Redmaids’ High School, Woldingham School
Our finalists were then invited to join us on Sunday March 12 at Warwick Hall for the exhilarating Grand Final event.
The Grand Final began with an introduction from Steven Burley, Head at King’s High Warwick, after which the Junior Competition started. The Juniors all put on a brilliant show for their age. There were certainly some rising stars, and we look forward to seeing what their futures hold.
Next, the Junior and Senior Choirs came together for the Massed Choir Performance of ‘Make me a Channel of your Peace’, arranged and led by our all-star judge: Arranger, Composer, Broadcaster and Musical Director, Simon Lole.
Following that heartwarming performance and after much deliberation from the judges, the winners’ announcements were made with the crowns of Junior Choir of the year being awarded to North London Collegiate School for their performances of ‘The Seal Lullaby’ by Eric Whitacre and ‘Lightning’ by Greg Gilpin, and Senior Choir of the Year to Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School for their performances of ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ by Eleanor Daley and ‘Bobby Shaftoe’ by Anon (arranged by Robert Latham).

Both award winning choirs gave truly stellar performances. Listen back to a selection of the songs in our Vimeo Showcase, which includes the Massed Choir Performance and both Winning Choirs’ Performances.
Well done to everyone who entered, took part, and won this year, we can’t wait to do it all over again next year!
