GSA President Heather Hanbury: ‘Achieving top A-level results is useless if students don’t know how to fail’

Speaking to School Management Plus magazine, retiring GSA President, Heather Hanbury, Head at Lady Eleanor Holles School, discusses how students striving for perfection must understand that some of the best learning comes through trial and error.

Heather tells the magazine: “the very act of learning requires that we put the search for perfection to one side and have a go at everything. The example I often give to my pupils is to imagine the state the world would be in if a baby, when trying to take its first steps and falling over, decided “clearly I can’t do this, I don’t want to keep failing and so I am going to give up and perfect the art of crawling.”
