The diamond structure of Berkhamsted School enables pupils to flourish academically, free from stereotypes, in the classroom whilst at the same time enabling them to experience a co-educational environment through a myriad of regular activities, events and trips.

At Berkhamsted, your daughter will be encouraged to be actively involved in our wide-ranging extra-curricular programme. We believe it is the skills and abilities they develop outside the classroom that enhance and augment their academic pursuits.

Pupils join Berkhamsted Girls in Year 7 from local prep and primary schools, including those within the group; Berkhamsted Prep and Heatherton. Years 7-11 are taught on Kings Campus and our girls belong to one of the seven vertically-structured Houses. The Heads of Houses and their tutor teams support and monitor the girls’ progress through the School, working with them, their teachers and parents. Our strong pastoral system, distinctive in its coaching style, is key to enabling the girls to fulfil their academic potential and in supporting them through challenges they may face as they progress through their teenage years.

Your daughter will be encouraged to be ambitious, secure in the knowledge that she has the skills, ability and support to achieve anything she sets her mind to – as William Butler Yeats said, ‘education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’. Girls are encouraged to set targets that are realistic and achievable and to work towards them with energy and determination. Bursaries & Scholarships

It is the Governors’ policy to award Scholarships and Exhibitions on merit
to pupils whom Governors wish to attract to Berkhamsted because of the
contribution that they are able to make to School life, be that academic, musical,
dramatic, sporting, artistic or as potential leaders.

Exhibitions may also be awarded.
The Incent Award is awarded to talented pupils who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend Berkhamsted; the award may be up to the full value of tuition fees and can also include extras such as school uniform, travel to and from school, and trips and expeditions.

Scholarships and Exhibitions are only awarded on entry to Berkhamsted (from age 9+) and thus are not available to pupils within the School. Pupils at the preparatory schools within the Berkhamsted Schools Group, however, are eligible for Scholarships if applying for entry to the Senior Schools (Berkhamsted Girls and Berkhamsted Boys).
Scholarships are awarded for the duration of the pupil’s time in the School. However, all Scholarships and Bursaries may be withdrawn if it becomes apparent through the scholarship review and monitoring process that the pupil to whom an award was made is not meeting scholarship expectations as set out in the expectations document that will be sent with any offer.
