National success underpins a commitment to specialist player development, exceptional scholarship opportunities and widening access to the game.
Moreton Hall has launched a Lacrosse Centre of Excellence to develop the next generation of female lacrosse players and give more girls across Shropshire and the Welsh borders the opportunity to play.
Moreton brings an established record of achievement to the initiative. National Schools U19A champions in 2024 and School Challenge Cup bronze medallists in 2025, Moreton has continued its success this September, reaching the Prague Cup final with victories over Germany, Poland, and Czechia, and securing unbeaten Welsh Rally titles across its first, second and U15 teams.
Its pupils and former pupils have earned places in England and Wales squads at age-group and senior international level. Earlier this year, two pupils were selected for Wales’s senior World Championship squad, demonstrating the opportunities available to young players developing within the school’s programme.
The Centre will build on this foundation through expert coaching, generous scholarships and a structured programme of development. Alongside supporting players with international ambitions, it will seek to raise standards locally and broaden participation through opportunities for girls to discover the sport and develop their skills.
Lacrosse scholarships welcome applications from accomplished players and girls with strong athletic potential who are new to the game. Scholars benefit from specialist technical and tactical coaching, personalised strength and conditioning, access to a nutritionist, performance analysis and injury prevention support. Regular mentoring helps them set goals, review progress and balance sporting commitments with their education. Assistance with competition entry fees, kit and travel is also available, subject to prior approval.
Carina Walsh, who is Head of Lacrosse at Moreton Hall and also the Women’s National Team Head Coach for Wales, said:
“Having so many international players come from one school, and achieving all that we do is simply amazing, and it is a testament to the program and support available at Moreton Hall. The ability to award scholarships and provide an environment that nurtures and pushes young talent is a true privilege and our new Centre of Excellence will only enhance this further, enabling us to continue producing international talent for many years to come. It is really exciting.”
Michael Brewer, Principal of Moreton Hall, added:
“We want girls to discover what they can achieve through lacrosse, whether they are picking up a stick for the first time or working towards an international shirt.
“Our success gives us a strong foundation and an opportunity to contribute more widely to the game. Through the Centre of Excellence, we are committing to developing talented players, sharing our expertise locally and opening the sport to more girls.
“A scholarship at Moreton brings sustained investment in a young person: the coaching, encouragement and individual support to help her flourish on the pitch and in the classroom.”
The Centre’s charter sets out its commitment to ambitious coaching, wider participation, player wellbeing and the development of confident young women who contribute positively to their teams and communities.
