On Saturday, the 1st, 2nd and U15 teams travelled to Cheltenham Ladies’ College for the annual Welsh Rally Championships. All three returned unbeaten champions, having won every game they played. The 1st and 2nd Teams both defended their titles, while the U15s reclaimed theirs.
The 1st Team’s run was particularly convincing: 7–2 against Godolphin, 2025 Challenge Cup winners, followed by 10–0 against hosts Cheltenham Ladies’ College, 7–2 against St Mary’s Calne, 13–0 against Sherborne and 6–2 against Marlborough, last year’s runners-up.
With the trophies collected, the 1st Team boarded another coach and headed south for Sunday’s Berko 10s at Berkhamsted School. The tournament gives Moreton a rare chance to test itself against southern sides it would otherwise only meet at the National Schools Championships. A tired start brought a defeat to St Catherine’s, the squad’s only loss of the weekend, after which they won all six remaining games. Among them was a 9–3 win over last season’s champions Lady Eleanor Holles and a 4–2 victory over hosts Berkhamsted to close the day.
Carina Walsh, Head of Lacrosse, said: “After a successful pre-season and a fantastic trip to Prague, the season really got underway this weekend, and what a weekend it was. Three teams, every game won, three titles. We are incredibly proud of all three squads crowned Welsh Rally Champions, and particularly proud of the stamina and resilience shown by the 1st squad across two tournaments in two days. That early loss at Berkhamsted was no bad thing, either. It switched us on and kept complacency at bay.”
Special mention went to the four Lower Fifth (Year 10) pupils who stepped up to play with the 1st squad through a demanding weekend of back-to-back fixtures.
