Founded in 1874 on the original site in central Croydon, Croydon High School has been situated in the leafy suburb of Selsdon since the mid-1960s.
For 150 years, the school has provided a superb all-round education to girls from the local area and further afield. Croydon High is part of the GDST (Girls’ Day School Trust), the leading network of independent girls’ schools in the UK.
Combining tradition with a forward-looking approach, a richly diverse demographic makes this a vibrant and inclusive community that achieves excellent all-round results.
Girls aged from 3 to 18 enjoy bright, spacious learning spaces including, amongst many other notable features, a Forest School area, state of the art Music and Art technology suite and outstanding sports facilities, all set in stunning and extensive grounds.
Every girl, every day, is the school mantra, focused on knowing every girl, as a person, a learner, a performer or a sportswoman, with each one supported and encouraged to reach her individual potential.
Croydon High’s wide ranging co-curricular programme, Alis Propriis Volat, (meaning She flies with her own Wings) ensures each girl finds her passion.
The school regularly achieves local, regional and national success in sport; arts are challenging and impressive with an Artsmark Gold Award, with termly productions involving students across all year groups and young artists are motivated and inspired to develop their creative talents in different media. The Music department offers exciting opportunities to musicians of all ability levels in varied musical genres.
Girls join Nursery after they turn three, and progress through Junior School, gaining confidence and experience. They enjoy unparalleled opportunities to discover individual talents, through a curriculum specifically developed to empower and inspire girls. This includes specialist teaching in areas such as computer science, drama, languages, music and PE, from Nursery up.
At Year 7, girls become part of a vibrant Senior School with a strong emphasis on personalisation. Teaching and learning strategies are based on the idea that every girl is embarking upon a unique learning journey. Individual, aspirational targets are set for each girl, based on a range of indicators, and adding a degree of challenge taking into account what the school will undoubtedly deliver.
From Nursery to Sixth Form, the school aims to develop confident, engaged, compassionate and ambitious young women, with wide ranging interests and well-informed opinions. The true measure of a Croydon High girl, however, is not just her academic achievements but the breadth of her interests and her self-belief, developed as part of this supportive and inspirational community.
