Malvern St James is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 4-18 set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the Malvern Hills.

The School focus is on inspiring teaching to deliver excellent academic results; and equally on encouraging intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, considered risk-taking and collaboration that universities and employers will value. The enrichment programme is as long as it is broad, and has something to fire the imagination of every individual: clubs for budding engineers and scientists, extra-curricular languages, drama, music, Leiths, journalism, photography, sport of every kind, Young Enterprise, Debating and Model United Nations … to name but a few.

First class pastoral support creates a happy and friendly community, relaxed yet purposeful, with a real sense of family. The diverse list of graduate courses at the most prestigious institutions and the competitive career paths that girls go on to is testament to MSJ’s culture of ambition and achievement.

With a roughly equal number of day girls and boarders, the School is able to offer the best of both worlds and a very flexible boarding programme. Full, weekly and flexi boarding options are offered, designed to meet the needs of modern family lives. A central position in the town of Great Malvern, situated in the heart of England, gives access to excellent transport links and cultural opportunities all around the UK, including a direct train service from London.

Gifted & Talented

MSJ supports More Able pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.

The extensive extracurricular activities schedule means that there are stretching and extending activities available to pupils throughout the school. More Able students can take part in societies that are subject based such as GeogSoc to develop their interest in a particular subject, or take part in groups such as the Model United Nations or Debating Team.

Guidance and mentoring is provided for pupils to help them pursue their interests and the PE department offers personal training for our Sports Scholars. The library provides a challenge board that has links to competitions, events and courses that pupils can access independently.

Academic discussion is also encouraged outside of the classroom through the Somerville Supper Club that takes place every half term, where girls are invited or can apply for a place at the table to discuss ideas, concepts and theories over an evening meal.

SEN

Specialist teachers can offer extra support through time tabled 1 : 1 lessons. These are tailored to the individual needs of the pupil and their progress is regularly monitored.

Bursaries & Scholarships

The School offers Academic Scholarships together with Art, Music and Sports. Drama, Riding and Technology Awards are also offered for Year 9 and Sixth Form. All awards are granted on the basis of evidence of excellence and outstanding potential in a given area.

Scholarship Awards are honorary and are highly valued by universities and future employers. From September 2017, scholarships may carry a fee remission. The final award will be considered alongside any other bursaries and remissions, the combined total of which will not exceed 40% of fees.
