St Teresa’s Effingham

St Teresa’s is a thriving Day and Boarding School for girls aged 3-18, situated in 55 acres of outstanding natural beauty in the Surrey countryside.

We are a Catholic school, open to all faiths and none, and have a values-based approach to education. We benefit enormously from the beauty of our surroundings, but are only 40 minutes to London by train, and 35 minutes to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports by road.

Small enough for each girl to be known individually, yet large enough for vibrancy and diversity, St Teresa’s has a record of exceptional pastoral care and outstanding academic results, adding remarkable value to our girls.

St. Teresa’s, moreover, has superb facilities including a £3.5m Performing Arts Centre, a Tennis Academy, an Equestrian Centre, an indoor swimming pool, and, in September of 2018, we opened a new multi-million pound Sixth Form Centre. As a school, we have grown by 60% in the last five years.

Although academic endeavour is at the forefront of St Teresa’s, we espouse an ethos of roundedness, intellectual curiosity, and mental resilience; selection at 11+ is not solely based on academic potential. With recognised strengths spanning academia, sport and the creative and performing arts, we continue to focus on the individual, enabling girls to achieve their best.

Pupils are encouraged to think originally and with creativity, and the wealth of opportunities available to them ensures that they develop into confident, substantial and accomplished young women, emboldened to forge unique paths to success and happiness.

Bursaries & Scholarships

Academic Scholarships are awarded at 11+ and 13+ based on performance in the Entrance Examinations.

Academic Scholarships at 16+ are awarded on the basis of academic distinction demonstrated in the Sixth Form Scholarship Examination completed in the Autumn Term of Year 11.

Scholarships are also awarded for Art, Drama, Music and Sports. It is expected that girls who have been awarded scholarships play a full part in the extracurricular life of the school.

All candidates who receive a Scholarship Award at 11+ and 13+ are expected to complete their secondary education including Sixth Form at St Teresa’s.

Bursaries are available to those wishing to join St Teresa’s from other schools from Years 3 to 6 in the Prep School, and from Years 7 to 12 in the Senior School and Sixth Form.

All new applicants to the school are eligible to apply for these awards which are subject to a means-tested review of a family’s financial circumstances. The selection and award of places will be at the sole discretion of the school.
