Microsoft Showcase Schools Tour visits Downe House

28 January 2020

Visitors were invited into classrooms to see for themselves how technology has transformed teaching and learning since the Digital Strategy was introduced three years ago. The Microsoft Surface device has been adopted by teachers and pupils alongside the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 Suite to facilitate collaboration and feedback both in and outside the classroom, as well as making work available to users anywhere.

Director of Information Systems, Mr David McClymont said, “We were thrilled to take part in the Microsoft Showcase Schools Tour and welcome this group of educators to Downe House. We are committed to preparing our girls for their future and use market-leading Microsoft technologies to facilitate and develop those 21st century learning skills that they will require to succeed. Skills such as collaboration, problem solving and the ability to use ICT to truly enhance teaching and learning, have been integrated across all subject areas. We are constantly evolving our thinking and seeking new and innovative ways to enhance the education we provide to our girls. That journey will never stop!”

After the classroom visits, the delegates attended a presentation by girls in the Upper Sixth, Lower Fifth and Remove, in which they explained the practicalities of how technology has supported their learning. Deputy Head, Mrs Areti Bizior then spoke about the rationale behind Downe House’s journey to integrate digital teaching and learning into the curriculum and the importance of making sure that girls leave Downe House equipped with the key digital skills, knowledge and values needed to flourish in higher education and the workplace.
