Truro High School’s Justine Pellew-Harvey is set to become the youngest recruit to ever star in Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Justine, who last year was the school’s Deputy Head Girl, will star in the TV programme, which shows ex-Special Forces soldiers putting recruits through a re-creation of the SAS selection process.

Applying at just 18-years-old, she is the youngest recruit in the show’s history.

Justine said: “I’ve always been a huge fan of the show. In fact my first thought on my 18th was that I was old enough to apply for SAS: Who Dares Wins!! Since I was 15, I have been training in bodybuilding, sailing competitively at an international level and two years ago I started CrossFit, so I’ve always been physically strong but I wanted to put my mind to the test too.”

“The show is the ultimate test and I was conscious that if I applied at 18, that I would be the youngest contestant ever to attempt the course so my aim was also to inspire young people, especially girls! At Truro High, I was always encouraged (and I know every girl there will always be) to push myself and to know that I could do anything I set my mind to. If it wasn’t for the High School I wouldn’t have had the courage to hike to Everest Base Camp at 16 or even attempt some of the other crazy challenges I put my mind to. I wouldn’t have as high aspirations as I have today if it wasn’t for Truro High. I will forever be grateful to them!”

Justine proved herself an inspiration during her time at Truro High School. She was named the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of 2018 – one of the highest honours in the army cadets, made headlines when she beat all 300 competitors in the 10K Royal Marines 2018 Commando Challenge and reached Everest basecamp when she was 16, in her attempt to become the youngest person to conquer all seven of the world’s highest mountains. She studied Spanish, French and Geography at A Level and her hard work resulted in an impressive set of grades last summer.

She is currently skiing in Kyrgyzstan and perfecting her Russian ahead of taking up a place at the Sorbonne to study Slavic Languages.

Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “I am beyond proud of Justine who so clearly demonstrates the grit, determination and resilience that we try to instill in all our girls. Justine was inspired to climb to base camp Mount Everest when she was 16 years old by one of our school assemblies and she hasn’t looked back since. She is motivated, focused and hard-working and I know there will be no limits on what she can achieve. We will certainly be watching on Sunday night – she is an inspiration to us all.”

SAS: Who Dares Wins begins Sunday, May 9 at 9pm on Channel 4.
