Sherborne Girlsupcoming open day (click for details)
Located in the beautiful county of Dorset, Sherborne Girls is one of the top independent full-boarding schools in the UK, offering an excellent academic and all-round education for girls aged 11 to 18. Only two hours away from London on the train and easily accessible by road, there are also a number of regional airports in the area, yet little detracts from the rural charm of the town which is home to a number of independent schools, as well as Sherborne’s famous Abbey.
Sherborne Girls has a long-standing reputation for being friendly and vibrant; it is equally renowned for the high quality and inspirational teaching, sensitive pastoral care and outstanding examination results. A broad curriculum is offered, including a specialist Junior Diploma and the International Baccalaureate. Some A level subjects are taught with boys from Sherborne School; the partnership between the schools provides a winning combination of committed learning practice together with exciting extra-curricula opportunities including an extensive range of musical, cultural and social activities such as joint orchestras, drama productions, and weekend socials.
The house system is just one of the strengths of the school, with five mixed age houses for girls aged 13 to 17, a brand new junior boarding house for 11 to 12 year olds and another for the Upper Sixth, ensuring the needs of every age group are catered for. Uniquely, girls eat all of their meals in their houses to reinforce the sense of family and community which helps girls to settle into School and make friends for life.
Our aim is to provide an accessible yet stretching education which will enable girls to enjoy fulfilling and active lives, have open and enquiring minds, and develop the character, confidence and courage to make a valuable contribution to a global society.
Gifted & Talented
We are very fortunate to have a large number of gifted and talented pupils at Sherborne Girls, ranging from top academic scholars, sportswomen who compete at national level and extremely gifted musicians. Through scholarships, the school acknowledges the skills that pupils joining the school bring with them. However, there are also a large number of non-scholarship students that fall under the Exceptionally Able programme, the aim of which is to ensure that all these students are suitably challenged and fulfil all their potential while at the school.
The school’s learning support is led by a specialist member of staff. Additional lessons are provided for girls with specific learning difficulties and those needing EAL support. These are usually at an added cost.
Bursaries & Scholarships
Sherborne Girls offers a number of scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries for girls entering the School at 11+, 13+ and 16+. All awards are made on merit, with a maximum merit award of 15% of the fees. All awards are index linked, their value increasing in proportion to any increase in fees.
