NOTRE DAME IS AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS WELLBEING AWARD

5 March 2020

Notre Dame School has been awarded the prestigious ‘Wellbeing Award for Schools’. This rigorously assessed award, held by only a small number of schools in the country, focuses on the culture of the whole school using an evidence-based framework to look at staff and pupil wellbeing and ensure that mental health and wellbeing sit at the heart of school life. All aspects of the school community from teaching and curriculum to environment and leadership were examined and it was found that “wellbeing is engrained in the school’s ethos”.

During the comprehensive evaluation, the independent verifiers from Optimus Education found that: “The shared values and language of the school instill a strong sense of community and underpin a culture in which pupils and staff are empowered to take responsibility for their own and others’ wellbeing. It is a culture in which staff are accompanying young women as they build their lives, and all are caring for the individual. During the verifier’s visit this was exemplified by positive relationships, kindness, compassion, humour and mutual respect between all members of the school community.”

Mrs Anna King, Senior School Headmistress said: “For over 400 years, we have put wellbeing at the centre of everything we do and we are delighted that our deeply embedded ethos has been recognised by this award. It is a fantastic endorsement of our wonderful staff and our girls who are committed to supporting and caring for each other, and reflects what I see around school every day.”

Mrs Amanda Windibank, Head of Pastoral Care said: “It is very rewarding to be recognised for our culture of wellbeing. We know that happy girls make good learners and we intend to continue to be at the forefront of new mental health initiatives and a leading light in this area.”

The Wellbeing Award for Schools is awarded in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau and is designed to promote emotional health and wellbeing in schools.
