Marist Students Celebrate Excellent A Level Grades

10 August 2021

The Marist School, Sunninghill, marks another year of excellent A Level results with 86% A*-A grades and 100% grades A*-B. 100% of this year’s Year 13 cohort have achieved their first choice of university.

As well as achieving academic success, students have also excelled outside the classroom, accomplishing an impressive set of achievements. Some of our individual successes include:

Yasmin achieved 3 A* grades in Geography, Mathematics and Psychology and now looks forward to commencing her Psychology studies at Royal Holloway, University of London. Elected as Maths Captain and a keen ice skater, Yasmin also participated in the CAFOD Young Leadership Programme. The programme provides a year of training to develop leadership skills like team building and offers young people the opportunity to discuss global issues and reflect on how they can make a difference.

After joining The Marist in Year 12, Ella has received 3 A* grades in English Literature, French, Spanish and an A* grade for her EPQ. Ella will now go on to study International Business at the University of Leeds. During her time in the Sixth Form, Ella was appointed Deputy House Captain and has completed several Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Business and Marketing. Outside of school, dancing is a passion for Ella.

Evie will be taking up her Philosophy place at the University of Edinburgh in September after achieving 2 A* grades in Art and English Literature, an A grade in Politics, and an A grade for EPQ. Evie’s leadership roles have included Art Captain and Year 7 Liaison Officer, which involved helping new Year 7 students settle into Marist Senior Phase life quickly and happily. In addition, Evie, alongside other Marist Sixth Form students, helped to raise funds for the EDCLUB Movement, an initiative which provides disadvantaged Kenyan children the chance to access a better future through self-education and encouragement.

Sports Captain, Kate, received 2 A* grades in Business and Physical Education, an A grade in Geography and an A grade for EPQ, and will now study Marketing at the University of Southampton. Alongside her academic achievements, Kate has also attained her Care Certificate Level 1, a RLSS Lifeguarding qualification, and was a member of ‘Jog On’, a student-led business selling fleeced-lined jogging bottoms as part of the Tycoon Enterprise Competition.

Head Girls, Lara and Lizzie, are both celebrating after achieving an A* and 2 A grades each for their A Levels. Lara, who received an A* grade in English Literature and 2 A grades in Biology and History, will go on to study Law at Queen’s University Belfast while Lizzie is off to Cardiff University to study Psychology after achieving an A* in Psychology and 2 A grades in English Literature and History.

Mrs Jo Smith, Principal of The Marist School said,

“We are extremely proud of this year’s A Level cohort for their academic excellence. The TAGs process was rigorous, and the grades awarded truly reflect the hard work that our students have undertaken. Our A Level students have managed to maintain continuity of learning at a high level throughout the last two years, they were determined and motivated in their learning. They have excelled both in and outside the classroom and I am confident that they are leaving The Marist as ambitious, innovative, and self-aware leaders of the future. They leave the Marist with our very best wishes for the next stage of their lives.”
