For over 145 years, Francis Holland Sloane Square has shaped character, cultivated curiosity and opened doors. We are a school where every girl belongs, believes in herself and becomes the young woman she hopes to be – inspired to dream fiercely and to move confidently into the world with purpose.
Our public exam results (44% of GCSE graded 9 and 71% 9-8 in 2025, while 72% of A Level results were A*-A), have been on a strong upward trajectory over the last decade and we are now rank amongst the top independent schools nationally. Leavers go on to further education in the US, Canada and Europe, as well as Oxbridge, top Russell Group universities and top music, drama and art schools. Academic excellence is complemented by a strong sense of community and outstanding pastoral care, with our comprehensive wellbeing programme having won the School House Mind & Mental Health Champion Award 2025 and been named finalist for Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing 2025.
In a school that is proudly and unapologetically designed for girls, our pupils feel seen and respected. As a result, they enjoy the freedom to learn without constraint. We prioritise skills that will truly set our pupils apart – leadership, oracy, empathy and storytelling – so that they learn to think creatively, to influence, to innovate and ultimately, to succeed. Every girl learns how to develop her own business, competitive sport addresses the fear of failure and perfectionism, and exceptional arts departments offer unrivalled opportunities for performance.
Through dynamic teaching, a rich co-curricular programme with both over 100 clubs and over 100 annual trips and a culture that values curiosity over perfection, we help our pupils develop the self-belief to take intellectual risks, explore their interests and embrace new opportunities. No two girls follow the same path at FHS. They leave here as confident and thoughtful young women, ready to pursue their ambitions, lead with purpose and make a meaningful contribution to the world.
Francis Holland Sloane Square was founded in 1881 by Reverend Canon Francis Holland. Three years later, the school moved to its current site on Graham Terrace, where it has since expanded to include the RIBA award-winning Centre for Creative Learning, a Centre for Creative Enterprise, and a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre, the Old School House. In the lead up to the school’s 150th birthday, a series of ‘Unlocking the Potential’ developments to the campus masterplan are in progress, including a new Dining Room, Library, STEAM Centre and greenification of the school playground.
Francis Holland’s Junior School (formerly located onsite at Sloane Square) relocated to an iconic Victorian Grade II listed building just off the King’s Road in September 2024, becoming Francis Holland Preparatory School.
Francis Holland Sloane Square is just around the corner from Sloane Square underground station and a short walk from Victoria railway station. Its central location makes it easy to reach by public transport and, for its pupils and staff, this facilitates fast and easy access to London’s many famous cultural and historic attractions. The school is governed by the Francis Holland Schools Trust along with its sister schools, Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park, and Francis Holland Preparatory School. The three schools share strong bonds and similar values, and an aspiration to shape futures with purpose. However, each school has its own individual characteristics and identity.

Scholarships typically come with 5% remission of fees at 11+ and 10% at 16+ and are awarded on assessment of performance tests. Scholarships are offered for academic, sport, music, drama, art and ballet. Criteria in each varies accordingly.
The girls who apply for our scholarships receive the requirements we expect for application as well as what we expect if they are rewarded a scholarship. The girls are also invited to come to the school for an assessment day.
At Francis Holland, we welcome capable, creative and ambitious pupils, regardless of their background. The more widely we can offer an outstanding Francis Holland education for life, the greater the benefit to women, to society at large and to our community. Applicants to our schools can apply for support for fees at varying levels as all our bursaries are means-tested.
Our bursary programme can cover up to 100% of educational costs and related costs dependent on the need ranging from full bursaries to sixth form bursaries, as well as hardship bursaries where required. The number of pupils in the schools benefiting from some sort of bursary provision varies year on year.
We also operate a bursary fundraising programme amongst our wider community of parents and alumni which contributes towards the cost of providing bursary support to ensure that finance is never a reason a capable girl cannot access a Francis Holland education.
