Queen’s Gate School

Queen’s Gate is an independent day school offering an excellent all-round education to girls from 4 to 18. We are a relatively small School with just over 530 pupils, but one which is rich in tradition and at the same time abundant with the energy and spirit of the 21st century.

Our pupil body reflects London’s international diversity, a dimension which truly enhances and enriches our community.

Our School is housed in five elegant Victorian buildings in Queen’s Gate, ideally situated to take advantage of the museums, galleries, theatres and other resources offered by a Central London education.

In both our Junior and Senior Schools, we aim to create a happy and secure environment in which each girl may realise her academic and personal potential.

We aim to inspire a love of learning and intellectual development, whilst encouraging each girl to achieve her potential outside the classroom through an extensive programme of extra curricular activities.

Emphasis is also placed on courtesy and concern for others and girls are encouraged to take part in charitable work both in their local community and further afield, enabling them to become responsible citizens in a small school and a larger world.

We would be delighted to welcome you to the School, at one of our Open Events or on a private visit to see the School at work, so that you can discover what Queen’s Gate can offer your daughter.

Bursaries & Scholarships

Senior School Scholarships: 11+

The 11+ Academic Scholarships are worth up to 20% of the fees and are tenable through to Year 11 in the Senior School. Parents do not have to apply specifically for these scholarships as all girls will automatically be considered on the basis of their 11+ examination results, school report and interview.

Other Scholarships for Art, Music, Drama and Sport are also available at 11+ entry and parents should make an application, in writing, when registering their daughters for entry to Year 7.

A letter supporting your daughter’s Scholarship application will also be required from either their current Head of School or subject teacher.

Please request the letter during the Autumn Term prior to the January examination so that we hold this information on file when the applications are being assessed. A delay providing a supporting reference may mean that your daughter’s application is not considered.

Scholarship candidates will be contacted once their supporting reference has been received to arrange their Scholarship interview/audition. The Scholarship interview will be conducted separately to the General interview. All interviews and auditions take place in January.

Sixth Form
Scholarships and awards for girls entering the Lower Sixth Form are also available and the value of each will normally be up to 20% of the annual fees and will be tenable throughout the two years of A Level Studies.

Junior School Scholarships
The existing scholarship awarded at 7+, has a value of up to 20% of the value of the school fees and is tenable throughout the top four years in the Junior School. The scholarship is open to both internal and external candidates and results are dependent upon academic performance in an examination and an interview.

The Albertopolis Scholarship
We are pleased to announce that, for entry to Year 3 in September 2020, we are expanding our scholarship programme. In addition to the existing 7+ scholarship above, we will be adding an additional scholarship place for external candidates who are currently in Year 2 at other schools.

The Albertopolis Scholarship is worth 10% of the annual fees and is tenable throughout your daughter’s four remaining years in the Junior School.

Applicants will be asked to visit the School and take examinations in English and Mathematics. The scholarship will be awarded based on results in these examinations, together with an interview with the Principal, and a report from the applicant’s current School.

If you would like to apply for the Albertopolis Scholarship, please contact the Registrar, Mrs Ceili Roberts-Beresford, by email ([email protected]) or by telephone (020 7594 4982).

Applications for Bursaries
At Queen’s Gate, we celebrate our local community in many ways. We are keen to welcome all families to apply for a place at the School, regardless of their background or financial circumstances.

A limited number of means-tested bursaries, of up to 100% of the value of school fees, are available to applicants of all ages in both the Junior and Senior Schools. If you would like to apply for a bursary, you are invited to register and follow our admissions process. At the point of offer, you will be required to submit a means-tested Bursary Application Form, after which you may be required to meet with the Principal and the Bursar.

Bursary awards are reviewed annually and the school must be informed of any change in circumstances.

PLEASE NOTE: At 11+ we do not require parents to complete an application form or provide any supporting documents for means-tested bursaries until a place has been offered at the School. Parents are welcome to meet the Principal to discuss their interest in fee assistance and if a place is offered to their daughter, only then will they be required to complete an application form and release their personal financial information to the School.
