St Nicholas’ Schoolupcoming open day (click for details)
St Nicholas’ School in Church Crookham is a non-selective independent day school, which not only achieves exceptional academic results but prides itself on preparing pupils to grow and develop both in and outside of the classroom.
It is a happy thriving school where education is seen as a partnership between teachers, pupils and parents.
Headmistress, Annette Whatmough, says, “We believe that our school plays a vital role in helping children find and build on their strengths and realise their goals. We aim to instill a sense of pride in everything that they do. All our pupils are given every opportunity to fulfill their potential.”
St Nicholas’ also provides pupils with a wide breadth of educational opportunities outside the classroom through sport, music on the stage or in the arts.
“Our pupils often achieve great things. When girls leave us we like to think they leave as well-educated, well-balanced and polite young women who are confident, enthusiastic and equipped – academically, socially and spiritually – for life beyond the classroom,” said Mrs Whatmough.
Preparing pupils for the future and a future jobs market, which looks very different to today, is something St Nicholas is keenly aware of and the modern and up to date curriculm reflects this.
So for instance modern language teaching also involves learning Mandarin as standard – which is very much seen in business and economic terms as the international language of the future.
“We have three educational aims. To encourage each pupil to achieve the highest possible standards in academic work and to benefit fully from the aesthetic and physical education programmes we offer. The second is to develop self-esteem, confidence and leadership and a sense of responsibility in every pupil. The third is to offer a caring environment to encourage the skills and knowledge pupils will need in school and their future lives,” says Mrs Whatmough.
