Prior’s Field offers a distinctive route to high achievement. It’s a school where girls are encouraged to grasp opportunities – from taking the floor in national debating competitions, adopting leading roles in a West End calibre cast, designing electric guitars at lunchtime, creating artwork worthy of a public exhibition, scaling a glacier or rising to the challenge of young chemist of the year. It’s where they can be happy and confident enough to take risks, inspired by talented teachers, and enjoy positive, engaging relationships.

Motivation, self-belief and enjoyment
As a relatively small senior school of 440 girls, aged 11-18, we are focused on the development of unique individuals. Our Sixth Formers go on to a wide range of top universities, including Oxbridge, to study courses as diverse as their talents and ambitions: from architectural engineering to biological sciences, neuroscience, fine art, law and music. Pupils are encouraged to involve themselves in the more than 50 extracurricular clubs and activities available, including climbing, silversmithing, trampolining, Greenpower engineering, riding and funky food.

Home from home
Boarding has always been at the heart of Prior’s Field; a recent ISI inspection highlighted the ‘‘atmosphere of trust, tolerance and friendship in the boarding houses’’. Boarders are supported by a team of dedicated, resident staff and enjoy an extensive programme of after-school and weekend activities.

Excellent facilities include a new Science, Music and Technology centre, with flagship interactive technology to support girls’ learning; an all-weather sports pitch; tennis academy for pupils of exceptional ability; superb Creative Arts centre; Sixth Form gym and separate Sixth Form House with quiet study areas, social loft space and ensuite bedrooms.

Prior’s Field is situated in 42 acres of Surrey parkland and offers a safe and rural environment, but is just minutes from the A3 to London and the south coast. Close to Godalming and Guildford stations (the train to London Waterloo takes on average 45 minutes), Prior’s Field is also conveniently placed between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Gifted & Talented

A well-established programme is in place for the exceptionally able. The staff Co-ordinator ensures that pupils who are identified are appropriately catered for, through differentiation in lessons and activities beyond the classroom.

An Oxbridge Co-ordinator organises an annual Oxbridge Dinner – a sit-down event at school, where students chat to current Oxbridge university students and admissions tutors over supper – and college visits.

Prior’s Field has a whole-school approach to special needs provision. The majority of our special needs pupils have mild dyslexia/dyspraxia and, typically, provision will include a session each week with a specialist teacher as well as sympathetic help in class.

Bursaries & Scholarships

Prior’s Field has a policy of encouraging applications from any pupil who would benefit from a place at the school, regardless of their financial situation. Means-tested bursaries are available at all points of entry and may be up to 95% of fees. They are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year. Initial applications should be made through Prior’s Field’s Admissions Manager.

Scholarships and Exhibitions for Promise are awarded to pupils entering at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form who display above average ability academically or in Art, Drama, Music or Sport. Means-tested bursaries are also available at these entry points; a forces discount of 20% applies for those in receipt of CEA.
