Last Tuesday we were delighted to welcome teachers from Hurlingham School, Finton House Prep, Granard Primary, West Wimbledon Primary, Green Wrythe Primary and Ark John Archer for the launch of Speak Up! Year 6 – our exciting new public speaking partnership developed and led by Mr Porter.
After being given an inspiring speech from ex Wimbledon Junior Anoushka K-B, the teachers received hands-on training from Speakers’ Trust and prepared to deliver public speaking workshops to their Year 6 classes. Teachers left the day feeling inspired and excited to get going with the programme.
With the aim of empowering young people to speak up about what is important to them, this partnership will deliver communication and oracy training to over 300 Year 6 pupils and culminates in a competition in which 14 Finalists will take to the Rutherford stage and compete to be crowned the Speak Up! Champion 2023. We very much look forward to starting the workshops with our Year 6 girls and seeing what inspires them to speak up and speak out.
