Moreton Hall

Moreton Hall is an open-minded, liberal and forward-looking school which delivers a bespoke, ambitious and innovative academic curriculum, coupled with outstanding pastoral care, successful sport for all, boundless creativity and extracurricular activities of an extraordinary range and quality.

Moreton Hall achieves all this through the lens of an informal, holistic outlook that remains central to both boarding life and its learning experience.

The school is known for being small, friendly and open and is proud to be one of the UK’s highest achieving independent schools educating girls from age 3-18 and boys from 3-11. Its Nursery provision caters for children from 6 months – 4 years.

Moreton Hall has long been built on the optimistic, outward looking and ambitious values of scholarship, gaiety and humanity instilled in generations of Moretonians since its foundation in 1913 by Ellen Lloyd-Williams. Today, this unique blend and close-knit family approach creates an ethos only experienced at Moreton Hall.

Led by these values, it’s no coincidence that Moreton Hall is placed in the top 35 schools nationally for sport, which is enjoyed by all alongside punching well above their weight in national competitions. Moretonians achieve stunning success in examinations, in addition to demonstrating academic ambition through the schools Bronwen, Jenner and Lady Barbirolli enrichment societies.

A genuine sense of fun, creativity and originality pervades the school from boarding house to The Holroyd Community Theatre stage. Moreton Hall is a forward-looking and ambitious community that instils in all its students a desire to achieve, a confidence to tackle new challenges and a compassion for the world we live in.

Moreton places equal value on excellence and progress as well as the key attributes of altruistic service, kindness and civic-mindedness. The school is uncluttered by petty rules and the community underpinned by strong mutual trust and positive relationships. Moreton nurtures essential life skills such as teamwork, taking a positive outlook and the ability to express oneself confidently and fluently in any public forum. Moreton fosters a spirit of self-determination, independence and creative imagination in everyone.

A Moreton education is joyful and inclusive, challenging and nurturing. Through a strong family ethos and a sense of belonging, Moretonians are prepared to navigate a world of fast change, uncertainty and novel pressures.

Bursaries & Scholarships

Moreton Hall is widely recognised as one of the leading independent boarding and day schools in the UK.

Increasingly selective, it’s overriding aim is to attract highly motivated pupils who will benefit from the wide range of opportunities Moreton Hall can offer.

Normal entry points to the senior school are at 11+ and 13+, and Sixth Form 16+ but occasionally pupils join at other times.

As part of our entrance assessments, there are a number of Scholarships available recognising achievement across a range of areas including Academic, Sporting, Music, Drama and Art. Moreton Hall’s scholarships are designed to attract pupils with significant talents and potential across a broad range of fields. As well as the prestige the Scholarships also offer some financial reward, up to 20% of fees in each category throughout the pupil’s education at the school. Junior Scholarships are also available for those in Years 3-6.

There are many pupils who would both benefit the school and benefit from the school but who may be unable to join Moreton due to financial constraints. As a registered charity we offer a number of means-tested bursaries worth up to the value of 100% of fees to assist such pupils.
